Simi Valley High School Marching Band & Color Guard
2019 Field Show Announcement
We are pleased to announce that we will be performing music inspired by the Broadway musical, The Phantom of the Opera. This is not your ordinary Phantom show, and will feature original music by Mr. Smith and Jordan Lewis. Our drum major Riley Olson will start the show center field on a tall scaffolding, where he will be be hoisted up in a cloud of smoke as the percussion makes their way forward. He will wear a full Phantom costume, including the mask, taunting the color guard as he makes his way to the podium up front. Pre-recorded sounds reflecting The Phantom will play as the intensity of the music reaches a climax, before we hear the Phantom laugh, to bring in the loud chords and chromatic runs in the woodwind voices. The color guard will the visual focus as we transition into the opener, which will feature a trumpet soloist slightly off center on a balcony/scaffolding. Their flag poles will be lit with red LED lights drawing focus to the choreography and musical nuances. 10 tall chandeliers will be stationed backfield, and will suddenly "fall" on our assistant drum major (TBD), color guard, and percussion, as we transition from the ballad to the closer. Now here is where the show takes a twist. If you have read this far, you have been had, or, as today's students say, punked. The actual and original show will not be announced until mid/late May. Thank you for reading this corny show write up. When we do announce the show, we will be doing it in a "movie trailer" format with a poster/graphic and some sounds that will appear in the actual show. The actual music the students will play will not be unveiled until one of our music rehearsals, when we have the official membership all together. The Phantom of the Opera is a wonderful music; and we look forward to seeing how it may sound in the future!
